Four Flies on Grey Velvet (Italian: 4 mosche di velluto grigio) is a 1971 Italian mystery thriller film, directed by Dario Argento. The screenplay is also by Argento, from a story by him, Luigi Cozzi, Mario Foglietti and Bryan Edgar Wallace
Some of the earlier cast considerations for the main role Roberto Tobias were Terence Stamp, Michael Yorkand even some members of The Beatles. Argento did not want to use the "image caught in the retina" plot device since it was too fantastic for the giallo genre. But once Carlo Rimbaldi showed him how the effect would look like in the finished film, he soon changed his mind. This was originally intended to be Argento's swan song to the giallo genre. This would later change once The Five Days did poorly at the box-office. It was Jean-Pierre Marielle's own idea to make his character gay.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this partially Italian movie! Also note that this Italian two-panel poster was printed in 2 sections (designed to overlap) and when combined, the poster measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm].Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you buy. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases.
